Community-based Approaches
to Natural Resource Management
It is our belief that certain fundamental human values
support our relationship to nature and that any successful program of
natural resource management, especially at the level of local communities,
must take these values into account and draw upon the motivating force that
they possess. These values include such things as love of beauty and
respect for generations yet to come.
Our experience in this area is varied:
-
Graduate research on the
contribution of community-based natural resource management to environmental conservation and rural
development in Mexico. The documents and papers can be found here.
-
Development of a watershed management plan framework involving
local communities for the NGO NewEnergy.
-
Graduate research conducted into land tenure systems,
especially grazing land, and their relationship to livelihood
security. The thesis is published here.
-
Facilitation of participatory planning exercises in
urban communities preparing for local AGENDA 21 actions.
