Supporting Social and Economic
Development for Pastoralists
Pastoralist peoples typically live and create their
livelihoods in places where agriculture is problematic if not impossible,
drawing on distinctive institutions and economic strategies that are adapted
to harsh and highly variable environments. Development policy and
programming, designed for other climates and other social and economic
conditions, have often failed pastoralists. Much of our work has
focused on reversing this trend and making development work for pastoralist
and agro-pastoralist communities in Latin America, West Africa and East
Africa.
