Information Flow, Accountability and Transparency (INFAT)
We led the Northern Ghana Network for Development team that designed this project, which was aimed helping community members to assess the performance of primary schools in two Districts in northern Ghana and to present their concerns to service providers and other stakeholders. We helped the Network to secure funding from the Commonwealth Education Fund, and we trained personnel from member organizations of the Network, as well as volunteer facilitators, in how to facilitate the Community Scorecard process.
Local Government Enhancement Project
The Northern Ghana Network for Development has a history of being involved in efforts related to strengthening civic participation in local government. We helped the Network to design this project, which saw personnel from the Network Secretariat and one of the member organizations, Amasachina Self-Help Association, interacting with Unit Committee members and helping Unit Committee members to assess the performance of District Assemblies and to hold District Assemblies accountable. The Unit Committee is the level of local government closest to the people in Ghana, but unfortunately, Unit Committees often struggle to know what their role is. By providing training in the Community Scorecard method, this project helped to give them a role: ensuring that District Assemblies are accountable and provide quality services.
Information Flow, Accountability and Transparency II (INFAT II)
This project was much like the first INFAT project. We helped the Network to secure funding from DFID.
Community Assessments Through Community Scorecards
The CIDA-funded District Capacity Building project (DISCAP) has recently helped three Districts in northern Ghana to launch a pilot monitoring and evaluation system. When DISCAP was searching for a civil society organization or coalition to spearhead this community assessment component, they turned to the Northern Ghana Network for Development. Robinson Orozco Associates led the design of the project and the training of NGO staff and community volunteers for the Network.
Development of the Community Scorecard Facilitation Manual
We have also helped the Network to develop a manual on facilitating the Community Scorecard process.
