Some of Our Experience in Community Scorecards

Civil society in Ghana is becoming more and more interested in government accountability, and a number of civil society organizations have now taken up the role of helping citizens to hold government accountable.  Donor agencies are also increasingly interested in supporting such initiatives.  As more of donor inflows into the country are channeled through the Government of Ghana, through facilities such as Multi-Donor Budget Support, those donors are increasingly concerned to ensure that mechanisms of accountability and transparency are in place.

The Northern Ghana Network for Development, which is an umbrella organization for NGOs and community-based organizations working in the north of the country, has adopted the Community Scorecard methodology as its key strategic approach for holding government and government service providers accountable.  We helped the the Network to design, source funding for, and conduct training for several projects using this methodology:
